Effect of Organic Materials on Soil Physio-Chemical Properties at Bayero University, Kano-Nigeria CIGR Journal
AHMAD, ABUBAKAR SABO.
Soil management using organic materials is one of the strategies of soil conservation and nutrients enhancement. This work evaluated the effect of organic materials (Poultry manure and Millet-chaff) on physio-chemical properties of soil at Agricultural and Environmental Engineering Departmental farm, Bayero University, Kano-Nigeria. Three different points were randomly selected and the soil samples were collected at (0-20 cm, 20-40 cm and 40-60 cm) making a total of nine samples. The physio-chemical properties of the soil samples were analyzed in the Laboratory and t-test was conducted to analyse the effect of these organic materials on soil physiochemical properties before and after application. Based on the analyses of the results, it was discovered that...

Microbial enzymatic activity and thermal effect in a tropical soil treated with organic materials Scientia Agricola
Cenciani,Karina; Freitas,Sueli dos Santos; Critter,Silvana Auxiliadora Missola; Airoldi,Cláudio.
Bacteria and fungi are the most active decomposers of organic materials in soil. They directly affect plant nutrient availability, and chemical and physical properties of soils. This investigation aimed at quantifying the effect of several organic materials on microbial activity of a Rhodic Eutrudox. Soil samples were incubated over a period of 91 days with the following organic materials: cattle manure (CM), earthworm humus (HM), and city sewage sludge from Barueri (BA) and Franca (FR). The activities of cellulase, protease and urease enzymes, the soil microbial carbon content (by fumigation-extraction method) and the exothermal effect were evaluated. Experimental design was randomized and arranged as factorial scheme five treatments x seven samplings...

Vertical distribution of pico- and nano-sized Dapi yellow particles at Dyfamed time-series station, NW Mediterranean ArchiMer
Tanaka, T; Rassoulzadegan, F.
We measured. abundance and surface area of pico- and nano-sized organic particles that are stained by 4'6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (Dapi), namely Dapi yellow particles. This study was done monthly from April 1999 to March 2000 from surface down to 2000 m at the French-JGOFS time-series station Dyfamed in the NW Mediterranean. Dapi yellow particles were always observed throughout the water column and the total surface area of Dapi yellow particles 0.2-10 mum ranged from 0.5 to 51.5 mm(2) l(-1). Dapi yellow particles were generally less abundant in the surface layer, greater between 70 and 500 m and decreased toward 2000 m. During the mixing period, Dapi yellow particles were homogeneous throughout the upper 200 m, suggesting that distribution of Dapi yellow...

In order to study appropriate kind of organic materials for improvement of salt-affected soil to increase yield of aromatic organic rice, the experiment was carried out in farmer’s field at Tumbon Bann Ped, Amphur Muang , Khon Kaen. The experiment designed was a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) consisted of 8 treatmentswith 3 replications. The treatments were as follows: 1) no application of organic materials (control) 2) application of rice straw and Sesbania rostrata 3) application of rice husk and Sesbania rostrata 4) application of cow dung and Sesbania rostrata 5) application of rice straw, rice husk and Sesbania rostrata 6) application of rice straw, cow dung and Sesbania rostrata 7) application of rice husk, cow dung and Sesbania rostrata 8)...

Soil salinity is a major problem in the use and management of agricultural in Thailand. Especially in the northeast, those have the lack of natural fertility. Many studies found that the use of organic material can reduce the salinity of the soil. The experiment was conducted with two organic materials, there are rice straw and sunn hemp incorporation with no-tillage system. Experimental design was a randomize complete block with 4 replicates comprised 6 treatments: 1) conventional tillage, 2) tillage with sunn hemp incorporation, 3) tillage with rice straw incorporation, 4) no-tillage, 5) no tillage with sunn hemp mulching and6) no tillage with rice straw mulching. Soil samples were collected in two peried of rice cultivation; before transplant and two...

Thailand is a country located on the tropical agriculture. Natural soil fertility is low. Low organic matter content. Due to the rapid degradation of the heat and humidity. Therefore, the concept adding of organic material and reduced tillage to improve soil properties for the better. The study on the effects of tillage systems on changes in soil chemical properties of rice. The experimental design was Randomize Complete Block Design (RCBD) 5 treatments. 1) tillage (control) 2) tillage with sunnhemp incorporation 3) tillage with rice straw incorporation 4) no tillage with sunn hemp mulching 5) no tillage with rice straw mulching. Soil samples were collected during the period, before transplant and 2 weeks after harvest. The soil reaction, electrical...
